November invited us to animate a series of custom typographic posters they had designed, each with its own distinct visual language.
Some of these were created for The Charles Theatre, a long-standing cinema house in Baltimore known for screening cult, foreign, and experimental films. The posters were part of November’s design residency at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), commissioned as weekly visual promos.
They also designed posters and prints for the prestigious Visiting Artists Lecture Series during their time at MICA. Each piece was entirely typographic, often using custom lettering or in-progress typefaces.
Our goal was to translate the unique visual treatments of each poster into motion. We approached each one as its own story, ensuring that the animation felt tailored and true to the tone of the original design.

We began by understanding the context behind each poster. For the film posters, the goal was to reflect the tone of the film through motion, allowing the animation to support the story and visuals.
For example, in Addiction, a thriller by Abel Ferrara, we aimed to capture the eerie, uncontrollable spread of addiction, mirroring the bloodthirsty descent of the main character in this vampire narrative.
Beyond the films, we also created motion that responded to the typographic style itself. In the poster designed for Eric Hu, for instance, the direction and flow of the animation drew inspiration from calligraphy, complementing the expressive lettering crafted by November.
