Designyatra is India’s oldest and most-loved design conference, bringing together speakers and creatives from around the world. Held annually in Goa as a 3 day event, KDY has hosted global design legends like Paula Scher, David Carson, and Khyati Trehan. For the 2023 edition, we collaborated with November, the studio behind the visual identity to craft the motion language for the event.
Our work spanned four major deliverables: Logo reveal, theme reveal, break graphics, and speaker titles. Each piece needed to feel expressive, playful, and true to the identity November created.

The visual identity for this year was headed by November. We were brought on board to flesh out the motion identity for the event. This year’s theme was ‘Reset,’ reflecting both the changes and challenges faced by the creative industry during and post-pandemic. The theme celebrates experimentation and creating without predefined rules.
Our first task was to create a teaser announcing the event. This year was unique, instead of one logo, the identity featured four completely different logos, each with its own style and personality. All four had to appear in the same animation, connected through seamless transitions.
We wanted the video to feel like a visual journey. A looping structure made perfect sense for Instagram, where this video would primarily live, giving us the freedom to move from one logo to the next without a hard beginning or end.
Templates and standardisation were eschewed for controlled and carefully considered chaos. 4 logos were created for the event.

The only thing the logos shared were the words “Design Yatra 2023.” Everything else - shapes, styles, colours, typography shifted dramatically. So the challenge became: how do we transition across four wildly different identities without breaking the flow?
We didn’t begin with a fixed order. Instead, we tested multiple transition routes until the movement between logos felt natural, surprising, and satisfying.

A collection of early tests, some of which made it to the final edit.
The theme for the event was Reset, a celebration of curiosity, newness, and beginner energy. We wanted the motion to capture that spirit: light, experimental, and full of discovery.
We knew that we wanted this to be non-linear and treated almost like a montage, a short, snappy looping video showcasing the mix of fonts that make up the identity. This would be used on their website as well as on instagram.
Early explorations for the theme reveal. We explored both static and motion directions in parallel, testing different ideas and approaches. Once we had a range of options, we shortlisted a few directions that eventually made it into the final edit.

We also designed a set of speaker title cards that appear on screen just before each speaker takes the stage. To balance efficiency with variety, we created five distinct formats and distributed them across 23 speakers, streamlining production while keeping each introduction feeling considered and unique. It was important that each animation style was driven by the type itself. After our explorations during the theme and logo reveals, we had a clear sense of how each font wanted to move, and those rules carried through into the speaker titles.
Across the event, from socials to stage intros to transitional screens, the motion system held everything together seamlessly. It became a defining part of the Designyatra experience, reinforcing the theme & visual identity.
